Blog : What is Glycemic Index (GI)?

Glycemic index is a scale that ranks a carbohydrate-containing food or drink by how much it raises blood sugar levels after it is eaten or drank.

The carbohydrates in low GI foods are digested and absorbed relatively slower compared to that in high GI foods, and therefore produce a slower and lower rise of blood sugar levels.

Go for a high fibre low GI diet!

GI is not a reflection of how healthy the food is. Chocolate and ice cream have low and medium GI rating, but they are high in fat. Save the chocolate and ice cream on special occasions!

The key is to use GI in the context of a healthy balanced diet.
